Information we collect
Sandy Pup collects only what is necessary to provide the service. If you create an account, we store your email address, display name, and saved beach preferences (likes and visited beaches). If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the email address you provide. We do not collect your precise location — the map is centered using your browser's optional geolocation prompt, which is never transmitted to our servers.
If you submit a review, rating, or photo, that content is stored and — once approved by a moderator — is publicly visible along with your display name. Your email address is never shown publicly or attached to public content.
If you send us a message through the contact form, we store the name, email address, and message you provide so we can respond to your inquiry.
How we use it
Your email is used for authentication, to notify you about the status of content you submit (for example, when a review is approved), and — only if you subscribed — to send the newsletter. Saved beaches are stored to power your personalized list across devices. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-party services
Accounts, sign-in, and data storage are provided by Google Firebase, and the map is powered by Google Maps; both may collect usage data per Google's privacy policy. Transactional email (such as review notifications) is delivered through Mailgun, which processes the recipient address for that purpose. Live conditions are fetched from NOAA and Open-Meteo — neither receives any personal data from us.
We may use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage trends; if enabled, it collects usage and device data (such as pages viewed and approximate region) as described in Google's policy. We do not use it to identify individual visitors.
Cookies & local storage
Sandy Pup stores your theme preference and recent beach searches in browser local storage. These values never leave your device and are not transmitted to our servers. Sandy Pup does not set any first-party tracking cookies.
Google Maps and Google Analytics (if enabled) may set their own cookies on pages where they are active, governed by Google's cookie policy. Sandy Pup does not control those cookies and does not receive the data they collect.
You can clear local storage and cookies at any time through your browser settings. Clearing local storage will reset your theme preference and recent search history. You can also opt out of Google Analytics via the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
California residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information:
To submit a verifiable request under the CCPA, . We will respond within 45 days as required by law.
Data retention
Account data is retained until you delete your account, which you can do at any time from the Profile screen. Reviews and photos you submitted remain published after account deletion (still under your display name) unless you ask us to remove them — and we will. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your inquiry, and are deleted on request. Local storage data stays on your device and can be cleared through your browser settings.
